• Continence for Men

  • Do you leak urine when you cough or sneeze or lift something heavy?

Do you have a urine stream that stops and starts?

Do you have to frequently empty your bladder ?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions you may have a bladder or bowel control problem.

Men of all ages can experience bladder or bowel control problems, which affect both their quality of life and self-esteem.

    Continence can be affected by:

    • Pelvic floor muscle problems
    • Prostate surgery
    • Constipation
    • Obesity
    • Heavy lifting
    • Chronic coughing
    • Poor bladder and bowel habits
    • Ageing
    • Medications

Bladder and bowel problems can be treated, better managed and often cured.

For many men urinary incontinence is experienced following prostate surgery. Research has shown that a supervised pelvic floor muscle training programme reduces leakage after surgery, and if begun prior to surgery speeds up the return to continence.

Virginia has completed postgraduate training in Continence and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation and can help men of all ages to improve their bladder, bowel and pelvic floor muscle health.
